SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane woman and her mother have been convicted in federal court on charges of sneaking a rhesus monkey into the United States from Thailand. Gypsy Lawson, 29, hid the sedated young rhesus macaque under her blouse, pretending to be pregnant when she successfully passed through U.S. Customs in Los Angeles after a trip to Bangkok, Thailand.

Her mother, Fran Ogren, 55, of Northport, Wash., also went on the trip in November 2007.

The two women were found guilty this week by a 12 member jury on separate charges of conspiracy and smuggling goods into the United States. Sentencing is set for March 3rd, 2009.

Read more at The Spokesman Review.

Valentine, Nebraska - A man dubbed the "Butt Bandit" for making greasy imprints of his nether parts on windows in the north central Nebraska city of Valentine has been sentenced to more than a year in jail. Cherry County Attorney Eric Scott says police caught 35 year old Thomas Larvie in the act on Nov. 19th.

Scott says Larvie was sentenced to 13 1/2 months in jail after being convicted of eight misdemeanor counts of public indecency and one of disturbing the peace.

Authorities said Larvie used lotion or petroleum jelly to make imprints of his naked behind, and sometimes his groin, on the windows of stores, churches and schools in Valentine beginning in the spring of 2007.

Read more at The San Francisco Chronicle.

PARRISH, Fla. – Authorities say a west Florida man who lives with his parents has been arrested on a felony assault charge after he used a Christmas tree as a weapon to attack his father.

According to the Manatee County sheriff's report a 37 year old man was arrested last week after he threw a 3 foot Christmas tree at his father. The tree missed, but the man then tried to use the steel base from the tree to strike his father.

His father and mother were able to grab his arms to prevent the attack. Deputies say the tree could have caused serious injuries because the metal base weighs about five pounds.

The man was charged with felony assault. He denied trying to strike his father.

Read more at Sarasota Herald Tribune.

TOPEKA, Kan. - Police are looking for a woman who used what's believed to have been hairspray as a weapon in a botched purse snatching in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Police said the would be thief on Saturday night first asked a 25 year old shopper for directions, then sprayed the woman in the eyes as she tried to take her purse from her shoulder. But the shopper held on to the purse, and the woman fled empty handed to a maroon minivan parked nearby.

The victim suffered minor injuries to her face.

Read more at My Way News.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A 9 year old boy takes his dad on a beer run, and now his father is charged with child abuse.

According to the police report, Joshua Fagan thought he was playing it safe. He says he was too drunk to drive and that's why he let his young son take the wheel instead.

Fagan is facing child abuse charges for letting his son make a beer run. On Thanksgiving eve Fagan and a friend went out for a buzz instead of a bird.

A Cape Coral police officer ended the joy ride after he saw the truck crossing over its lane and back into the median on Wilmington Parkway. When he pulled the truck over, he noticed a 9 year old behind the wheel. They were three blocks from home.

The report doesn't say whether the three made it to a liquor store, but an officer discovered an open case of beer in the truck's backseat.

Fagan told the officer he "didn't do anything wrong."

Caught with slurred speech and swaying while he stood, Fagan was arrested for endangering his son.

Read more at Wink News.

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL. — A 20 year old woman told police the wig she was wearing got snatched by an ex-boyfriend, who pedaled away on a bicycle, according to a report released Monday.

The victim said she left a party and was walking east on Southeast Voltair Terrace about 3 a.m. Friday when her ex-boyfriend came up on a bicycle.

She said he started arguing and yanked off a black wig that was sewn to her natural blond hair. The ex-boyfriend reportedly slapped her after she began chasing him.

Investigators found the victim's hair in "disorder." She said she and the alleged wig snatcher lived together for eight months. She knew his first name, but apparently recalled only the first letter of his last name.

The ex-boyfriend called the victim's cell phone while an officer was there. Speaking to an officer via the cell phone, he admitted pulling the wig off and leaving when the victim started crying and said she was calling authorities.

Read more at TC Palm.

A cardboard figure of a person inside a Somerset County bank kept police at bay for 90 minutes last night, authorities said.

The standoff at the PNC Bank on Routes 518 and 601 in the Skillman section of Montgomery Township ended about 10:20 p.m., Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said.

Police said an alarm went off about 8:40 p.m.

When officers arrived, they saw what they thought was at least one person through the windows of the bank, which had its blinds drawn, according to authorities.

Police sealed off the area to traffic and evacuated residents in three nearby apartment buildings.

"I drove in the parking lot (of my apartment building) and see all these guys with guns," said Ross Stout, who lives nearby.

Authorities tried to make contact with whoever they though was in the building. Officers used bullhorns and then tried to call inside the building, Forrest said.

After failing to get any response from the figure inside, the SWAT team entered.

To their chagrin, they discovered the "person" seen inside the building was a full size cardboard figure, Forrest said.

Read more at NJ Star Ledger.

SEDALIA, Mo. – A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19th. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine point, 240 pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

Read more at The Sedalia Democrat.

SAN ANTONIO – A man who rammed his truck into a woman's vehicle on a highway early Friday told authorities he crashed into her while going more than 100 mph because God told him "she needed to be taken off the road."

The truck rear ended the car on U.S. Highway 281, both vehicles spun across a median then came to a stop along a barrier in the opposite lanes. Both drivers suffered only minor injuries.

"He just said God said she wasn't driving right, and she needed to be taken off the road," Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kyle Coleman said in the online edition of the San Antonio Express News. "God must have been with them, 'cause any other time, the severity of this crash, it would have been fatal."

The pickup driver did not tell police how the woman was driving. Police could not find alcohol or drugs on either driver.

Read more by clicking here.
