Just Keep Driving!

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008
ANDERSON COUNTY — A Belton woman, who admitted to drinking, faces an October hearing in Anderson Municipal Court after she struck a vehicle, sped through a construction zone and stopped when she reached an Anderson bar, authorities said.

Loretta Tollison, 52, of Stevenson Drive was ordered to pay a fine of $262.50 or spend 20 days in jail after pleading guilty Friday to public intoxication.

Judge Ken Mattison allowed Tollison to sign a $1,152.50 bond and told her to return to court Oct. 17th to hear charges of leaving the scene of an accident and a temporary work zone violation.

Officer Jada Burgin testified that Tollison was found about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Passing Time Bar on Williamston Road. Tollison’s Chrysler LeBaron was found in the bar’s parking lot with extensive front end damage and the air bag deployed, according to the incident report.

During Friday's appearance, Tollison tried to explain.

“I told police that I did not understand that they were working at night,” she said. “There were no lights.”

According to the incident report, the Chrysler hit another car that was stopped for highway construction on U.S. 29 North. The impact spun the other car 180 degrees and pushed if off the highway and into a convenience store parking lot, the report states.

Beer!

Saturday, July 5th, 2008
MUNCIE, Ind. - A man gave beer to his 1 year old nephew, then punched his girlfriend in the face when she objected and stormed away in her SUV, court records show.

Richard H. Valens Jr., 44, of Muncie, was being held in Delaware County Jail under $17,500 bond Friday on charges of domestic battery, neglect of a dependent and auto theft. He could face six months to three years in prison on each count if convicted. A jail officer did not know whether Valens had an attorney.

According to court documents, Valens and his girlfriend argued when he allowed his nephew to drink beer on June 25th. The woman told police Valens said the child could "handle it" because "he's a champ."

Valens allegedly hit the woman in the face and then drove away in her SUV, threatening to kill her and her daughter when he returned. When he returned, however, police had arrived.

Drinking & Driving, On My Cooler!

Friday, June 6th, 2008
Leslie J. "Bomber" Marr learned this the hard way when he was arrested on Memorial Day in Whitehall, NY and charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after police saw him swerving around the streets and driving on the sidewalk, on a cooler.

Marr was driving around town on a Cruizin' Cooler, which puts a seat on top of a three wheeled cooler and attaches an electric motor similar to those found on electric scooters. It even has a hatch so you can pull out a icy cold drink while driving. The hatch also has a cup/can holder on top, suggesting that this sort of activity is exactly what the designers had in mind.

Under state law, however, the cooler is still considered a motor vehicle so sobriety is a must, and a license is highly recommended.
